Welcome Home Milk Toast- Kitten Adoption Marathon, WI

I have been saying “no more animals!” for quite a while now. We were down to two dogs and one cat, and honestly even just the three of them can be a lot sometimes. After our other cat, Dash, passed away last June, I was just burnt out from caring for him after his cancer diagnosis and leg amputation. Yes, that’s a lot for a little cat, and I know many people would not put that much time, money, or effort into a small cat when they’re a dime a dozen, but I couldn’t justify not trying when he was such a young cat, only two years old. And Everett was just devastated with both the diagnosis and Dash’s eventual passing.

But, when we brought Beethoven into the County Center Animal Hosptial to get an ear infection treated, we saw this sweet little kitten all on her own in a big kennel. She was the last of her litter, just waiting for a family!

Everett was immediately taken with her and how she jumped around ‘like a ninja!’. Of course, I said no, we couldn’t adopt her- we had enough animals!

But I did snap a picture of him playing with her through the kennel, and sent it to my husband.

His respose?

“Whatever.”

That meant he was fully expecting to come home to a new kitten!

I was talking with one of the technicians, and when I told her his reply, she immediately got the little kitten out and put her in Everett’s lap.

My husband was my last line of defense- I can’t say no to a cute furry face! So now I was doomed- I knew were going to be adopting another cat.

We took Beethoven back out to the truck after his ears were treated, and then I called Allen so we could talk about it more in depth before agreeing. Well, he convinced me that getting another cat was a good idea, so Everett and I went right back inside and brought her home with us!

I was so nervous introducing her to Beethoven, Sunny, and Mama Mia. She was so tiny- only about three pounds. One chomp from our 80-100 pound dogs and she was done for. And Mama’s wasn’t exactly happy to have another kitten in the house. Her name might be Mama, but she wasn’t a very maternal cat!

But this sweet little three-pound kitten was pretty tough! She didn’t notice when the dogs curled their lips at her, or when Mama’s made that awful growling noise. She just decided that everyone was going to love her, and that was that. I tried to keep her in Everett’s room for a few days, but she kept leaping over the gate and escaping into the rest of the house.

Luckily, Sunny and Beethoven are very friendly pups, and they accepted her as the newest pack member very quickly. Mama’s was a little tougher. It took her a while, but Milk Toast eventually wore her down, and now she’s a proper Mama Cat!

We sure love this little menace! She’s definitely a curious kitten- she gets into everything! It’s a good thing she’s so cute.

I managed to snag a few cute pictures of her the day we brought her home, hanging out in Everett’s room!

Enjoy these sweet kitten photos!
